Youth-Elder Camps

1: We are coordinating a youth-Elder camp for one of our Tribal partners. This is where youth and Elders from the same or sister communities travel to an ancestral site together. The Elders and youth spend several days together visiting the site and the Elders share knowledge and stories of place with the youth. Youth also learn about traditional harvesting of animal relatives and traditional plant uses, while learning wilderness survival skills.

Approximate Need = $30,000 (per community camp)

Support Tribally-Led Projects

1: Our Tribal partners consistently share their desires for certain projects, events, and outcomes they wish there was funding for. We try to find grant funding that alligns with these projects. However, often times there are no available grant funds that fit the intended projects so we have to raise our own funds.

2: We also want to hire a communications staff member to maintain a continuous connection between Tribal community leaders and HLC, so that we are aware of their immediate or pressing requests.

Approximate Need = $250,000

Indigenous Internship Program

1: Maintain and grow the Indigenous internship program.

2: Develop more opportunities for interns to guide their own work, explore their own interests, build specific skills they want. This requires paying interns for extra hours worked and more field visits.

3: Develop a donor base for long-term support of our interns. This includes supporting them with academic scholarships, travel support for their research and for conference attendance, and any projects they want to lead for their communities.

Approximate Need = $150,000

Organizational Development

1: Hire a fundraising staff member to find external funding to support our programs, and the future projects Tribes may seek. This staff member would work to grow our ability to attract resources as a nonprofit, develop project-specific case for support, and a consistent donor base.

Board of Trustees 

1: Maintain an engaged board of 8-15 members who share a passion for our mission and bring a diverse array of backgrounds and skills.

2: Raise consistent funding support to pay members for their contributions.

Approximate Need = $50,000

All-Indigenous Advisory Board

1: Maintain an engaged board of 8-15 members who are Elders and youth from our community partners.

2: Raise consistent funding support to pay members for their time and contributions.

Approximate Need = $50,000
